The official token of a scalable Layer 1 that blends Bitcoin’s security with Ethereum’s flexibility, is here.
Core is a new-generation Layer 1 blockchain designed to tackle the blockchain trilemma: decentralization, scalability, and security. It achieves this through what Core DAO calls the Satoshi Plus consensus mechanism, which offers a robust foundation for Web3 innovation.
Whether you’re a builder, validator, or simply curious about emerging L1s, CORE opens the door to a fresh and hybrid infrastructure that doesn’t compromise on decentralization or performance.
What is CORE?
CORE is the native cryptocurrency of the Core blockchain, a network supported by the decentralized Core DAO community. Core is an EVM-compatible Layer 1 network that uses a novel consensus mechanism called Satoshi Plus, which combines staked CORE tokens with cryptographic proof of Bitcoin mining activity to create a secure, decentralized, and scalable blockchain infrastructure—all at once, unlike many L1s that have to sacrifice one of these pillars.
What is CORE used for?
CORE has several roles within the network:
- Paying gas fees for on-chain transactions.
- Staking to help secure the network (directly or via delegation).
- Running validator nodes (requires staked CORE and verified Bitcoin hash power).
- Receiving block rewards for both validators and delegators.
- Serving as a medium of exchange within the Core ecosystem.
- Participating in governance to help shape the protocol’s future.
How does Core work?
Core introduces a hybrid validator selection process based on the Hybrid Score—Core’s specific validator ranking mechanism:
- Validators are ranked based on their delegated CORE and delegated Bitcoin hash power.
- The top 21 validators by score participate in block production.
- Rewards are distributed based on performance, and validators who act maliciously or fail to follow the rules may lose part of their stake.
This design aims to balance decentralization and efficiency, making Core one of the few networks integrating real BTC infrastructure into its consensus.
How to buy CORE on Bitso
- Log in to your Bitso account.
- Use the conversion feature to swap your local currency (MXN, ARS, BRL, COP, or USD) for CORE.
- Track your balance and performance directly in the app.
⚠️ CORE is available via conversions only on Bitso. External deposits and withdrawals are not currently supported.
A real-world example
Lucía is a crypto enthusiast interested in staking opportunities. After reading about Core’s hybrid validator model, she decides to convert a small portion of her portfolio into CORE and delegate it to a top validator through a third-party interface. She’s not mining Bitcoin herself, but her staked CORE helps secure the network, and earns her passive rewards along the way.
Disclaimer
CORE is the native token of Core, an EVM-compatible Layer 1 blockchain powered by a unique consensus mechanism called Satoshi Plus. While the project introduces an innovative approach to validator selection and seeks to address scalability and decentralization simultaneously, its network and governance are still evolving.
